Dr. Melanie Burton obtained her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC. She received her Masters Degree in Social Work from Syracuse University. Her primary focus is treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders utilizing person centered CBT and clinical applications based on attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, traumatology, affect regulation and mindfulness.
Dr. Burton has extensive experience overseeing inpatient residential substance use treatment services for mothers with children and for women re-entering society after incarceration. Dr. Burton has provided primary oversight over a large large number of adult outpatient treatment facilities for mental health and substance use disorders in addition to the extensive experience she possess in child welfare and residential treatment services for juvenile's with co-occurring disorders who have experienced pervasive trauma.
